Rue 21 Application

The first step in getting hired with the Rue 21 is by printing and filling out the official Rue 21 application. For your convenience we have included it below. Upon accessing the application you will be prompted to a PDF file. In the bottom right hand corner of the page you will see an option to print.

Tip: Consider printing two or three copies in case you make a mistake on one of them. Also be sure to fill out the application in blue or black pen only. Never use pencil.

Applying For A position

In looking over the Rue 21 application you’ll notice a series of questions. One of the more important sections on the form is the “desired position” line. This is where you fill in what job or jobs with the company you are interested in applying for.

In choosing your position its important to be realistic. This means only applying for jobs you are qualified for based on your experience and/or education. Different jobs with the company have different eligibility requirements.  For instance, if this is your first job or if you don’t have much experience working in retail, it is suggested you apply for an entry level position such as “store clerk”. Store clerks are responsible for the basic day to day operations on the store floor. Duties include things such as cashiering, stocking shelves, and greeting customers. If you have previous experience in retail consider applying for a position with more responsibility, such as supervisor or manager. Although these positions entail much more responsibility, they do pay much higher than entry level positions.

Availability

Another important part of the Rue 21 application is the “Availability” section. This is where you input what days and hours of the week you are available to work. This is another section where it is important to be realistic. If you currently go to school or have a busy schedule you likely won’t be able to apply as a full-time employee. Instead you’d want to check the “part-time” box and fill in your hours of availability accordingly.

References

Next I’d like to speak on the “references” section of the Rue 21 application. In the eyes of management this is an extremely important section. References give the company an idea of who you are and how you’ll be an asset to company.

The form asks you to provide three references. When choosing references its important not to use family or friends. Instead you’ll need to provide professional references such as previous employers, teachers, guidance counselors, etc.

Requirements

Before you turn in the Rue 21 application it is important to confirm that you are in fact eligible to work for them. The most important requirement is that you’re old enough. Age laws vary from state to state, however the typical law is that you be at least 16 years old. With that being said there are exceptions. Most states allow you to work at 15 or 15 1/2 if you have a work permit. Work permits can be obtained through your school’s guidance counselor.

Other requirements:

-Be able to stand on your feet for several hours at a time

-Strong people skills

-Basic math skills

-Proper hygiene

One thing to note is that the application inquires as to if you have ever been convicted of a crime. If you have been convicted of a crime it does not necessarily disqualify you employment. These situations are accessed case to case.

If you are a hard worker with a great attitude and a passion for retail, Rue 21 is the perfect company for you.
